Say what you want about the quality of TV shows that come from The CW but Nikita has proven that not only is it's television show different than the status quo the network usually dishes out BUT it has the legs to stand on it's own and looks to do so in season two. The executive producer of the Nikita recently revealed what fans can expect from the upcoming season which was renewed back in May and will now make Friday nights it's home after airing on Thursday nights last season.
In season one of the action packed series which stars Maggie Q in the title role, Nikita waged war against Division, the agency that created her. Michael (Shane West), the man who trained her and the man she grew to trust was hunting her. Nikita decided against running and instead took the fight to Division while training a girl Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca), to infiltrate this secret unit of the government. By the end of the first season, Nikita and Alex’s relationship had been shattered, and Nikita and Michael’s relationship was restored. Now as for season two...
Nikita and Michael are on the run with a hard drive containing the government’s darkest secrets and conspiracies. Together, they are going to right the wrongs that Division has committed over the years, one mission at a time. But leading the hunt for them this time is Alex and she knows all of Nikita's tricks.
When reporters caught up with the Maggie Q at the Monte Carlo TV Festival, the actress wouldn't divulge many details regarding the series' second season (of course) but she did tease that the season two would reveal some of Nikita's past saying, "We are going to finally see some backstory on her because we were actually able to avoid that in the first season. It was incredible how we actually managed to get around that. In the second season we're going to get into it and it's going to be really fun. I mean the stuff that they have planned is great."
As stated above Executive producer Craig Silverstein spoke with TV Guide about the upcoming season and even gave them some inside scoop about the season's sixth episode saying it would feature flashbacks that involve the former agent's biological parents, reveal her days as a junkie, and give a glimpse into how she wound up joining Division, "We're going into her origins," teases Silverstein. "She's searching for home and will find one that is unlike anything she ever imagined."
The series also stars Aaron Stanford, Melinda Clarke and Xander Berkeley. Season two of Nikita will premiere Friday, September 23rd on The CW.
