Updates on X4 and X5, Deadpool and The Wolverine

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men Franchise) in the latest issue of Empire, provides updates on the X-Men films, Deadpool, and The Wolverine. She explains that the upcoming prequel X-Men: First Class doesn’t mean we’re done with X-Men films set in the present day:

"We took the treatment to Fox and they love it… And X4 leads into X5."

News broke the treatment she's describing was well liked by execs and that Bryan Singer's X-Men story will continue.

She also spoke about how The Wolverine will be different from it's previous installment, X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

"It will have depth and a dramatic backbone. And yet there’s more action in this one than in any one we’ve ever done. It’s such a good script. We have the great Christopher McQuarrie writing and it’s very true to the Japanese saga. This is Logan on his own…"

Later in the interview Donner gave us a more definite answer when it comes to all the talk surrounding the upcoming Deadpool spinoff with Ryan Reynolds. She reiterates that the movie won’t acknowledge Deadpool's role in "Origins" and that:

"[Deadpool will be] a total reboot. We’re either going to pretend that didn’t happen, or mock it, which he could do."

She continued by saying that this will be the Deadpool fans know from the comic and that you’ll see all of Wade Wilson’s various forms:

"You’ll see all of them. You’ll see Wade Wilson, the good-looking Ryan Reynolds! You’ll see Deadpool in his costume and you’ll see the cancer-scarred face."

All but one of these stories has me excited and that would be the X4 and x5 news that broke today. With the decision made to make two more X-Men movies I'm really surprised given the fact that a reboot has just occurred of the franchise and now they want to continue on with Bryan Singer's version of the films. I though the reason for the reboot in the first place is because the movies were going nowhere fast!

After Brett Ratner's failed attempt at making the third film a success (story-wise) a reboot was obviously needed but now they are saying that those characters and that movie franchise isn't finished telling it;s story. That's just weird to me. Guess we'll just have to sit back and watch all the pieces come into place. Gotta love Hollywood!
