3-D Movies, Bigger Problem For Hollywood Than We Thought

A recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers revealed that this year alone there will be more than 40 movies hitting theaters that will be using the 3-D technology. The reason for this can be attributed to a lot of different things. James Cameron being one of them. The success of Avatar has made the decision to make films in 3-D a lot easier even if the technology itself isn't necessary for the movie in general.

So basically even if the movie sucks and wouldn't have gained an profit without the increase in ticket prices for 3-D movies, the costs are covered with the ploy of the movie being shot in 3-D.

Between 50% and 70% of box office revenue is generated by 3D, the report found so as tickets sales decrease, ticket prices for these 3-D movies increase. As someone who often goes to the movies, I'm afraid that if this trend continues, every movie, whether its warranted or not will in fact be in 3-D.
