Box Office Scoop: REAL STEEL Tops The Friday Standings

The robot boxing flick REAL STEEL knocked out all comers as the Shawn Levy-directed film topped the standings on Friday with the George Clooney-directed political thriller THE IDES OF MARCH coming in second. Holdover DOLPHIN TALE continues to impress coming in third.

REAL STEEL claims first place at Friday's box office with an estimated take of $8.5M which is the second best Friday opening for a boxing film believe it or not right behind the Will Smith-starrer ALI which grossed $10.2M on Christmas Day. REAL STEEL, which stars Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly is on pace for an opening just north of $25M.
